NNA - Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on all parties "not to waste the available opportunities to implement the financial and economic reforms that our government has studied and put forward as draft laws awaiting approval by the Parliament."
"Our hope is great during the mandate of President Joseph Aoun, and we call on all parties to support and cooperate with him and the new government to achieve what he expressed in his inauguration speech," Mikati added.
He emphasized that "political stability in Lebanon will not be complete unless Israel withdraws completely from all Lebanese territories, and the Lebanese state extends its sovereignty over all its territories."
"Lebanon needs internal and external stability to achieve the aspirations of its people to build a strong and prosperous state," he affirmed.
Mikati's position came during his participation in a forum on "The Middle East and the Road to Stability" during the "Munich Security Conference" in Germany, where he discussed with an elite group of political leaders the future of the Middle East region.
“The only way to achieve stability in the Middle East is to reach a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution,” Mikati affirmed.
He continued to emphasize that “peace in the region is based on respecting the rights of the Palestinians and ending the decades-long conflict."
Mikati underlined "Lebanon's steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination," calling on "the international community to take immediate measures to stop the violence, ensure the protection of civilians, and work to reach a just and lasting solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people, and guarantees the right of return for Palestinian refugees by international law."
